The 80-year-old actor got choked up while talking about the fifth film installment over the weekend, having brought the archaeologist to life for more than 40 years since the character’s debut in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark. With the fifth film on the horizon, he surprised fans with an appearance at Disney’s D23 expo in Anaheim, California. “Thank you for making these films such an incredible experience for all of us, giving the opportunity to us to make these films for you,” he told the audience in his farewell speech to the character. Holding back tears, he attempted to compose himself as the crowd cheered him on. “I am very proud to say this is fantastic,” he said, adding, “And this is one of the reasons,” as he pointed to co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. “‘Indiana Jones’ movies are about fantasy and mystery, but they’re also about heart,” he said, explaining, “We have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your a–.” He made it clear that this was his final hurrah, jokingly stating, “This is it! I will not fall down for you again,” before once again thanking the crowd for the many adventures. Following his debut in ‘81, Ford also appeared in the follow-up films—Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989. He then revived the character in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. Since the action-packed films often required the Star Wars icon to do his own stunts, it took a toll on him as he injured his back in the sequel film. He also injured his shoulder filming the latest installment, though Waller-Bridge, 37, still joked that it was “exhausting” to keep up with the experienced actor on set. Little is known about the plot, but a teaser was shared with lucky audience members. While it hasn’t been released online yet, it shows Jones, a retired teacher, telling Sallah (John Rhys-Davies) that he misses the “adventure” just before he’s pulled into an intense scene where he’s riding a horse and getting shot at, per USA Today. There’s also a peek at Mads Mikkelsen in a Nazi uniform. Rounding out the cast is Antonio Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann and Toby Jones. The Steven Spielberg-directed film doesn’t have an official premiere date yet, but it is expected to arrive in theaters in June 2023. More News:
