While details so far are scant on what to expect for season 5, Noah Schnapp gave a tiny sneak peek while accepting the People’s Choice Award for Male TV Star on Dec. 6. “You guys are not ready for what’s coming,” he said. “So get ready.” That’s not much, but it’s something. Plus, we do have some solid intel on the series, including whether or not this will be the last we see of Eleven, Hopper and the rest of the beloved Hawkins gang.
Will there be Stranger Things Season 5?
Indeed! In February 2022, Netflix said in a statement that Stranger Things would return for Season 5. Showrunners and creators Matt and Ross Duffer (known as “The Duffer Brothers”) wrote in a Netflix blog (via The Hollywood Reporter), “Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you’ll soon see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; Season 5 will be the last.”

Ross Duffer previously told The Hollywood Reporter, “Season 4 won’t be the end. We know what the end is, and we know when it is. When did Stranger Things Season 4 come out?

When is the Stranger Things Season 5 release date?
No official release date has been announced for Stranger Things Season 5 just yet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, filming has not yet begun on the fifth and final installment of the Netflix smash. As a result, there are no estimates for the show’s production and release slates at this time. However, the Duffer Brothers did note to Variety that there would likely be a much shorter wait between Season 4 Volume 2 and Season 5. “The gap should be quite a bit shorter this time, due to the fact that we already have an initial outline, and we can’t imagine there will be another six-month forced hiatus,” they said, adding, “During the six-month pandemic hiatus, we outlined Season 5 and pitched it to Netflix. Everyone there had also been present when we first pitched the show in 2015. While we were strangers then, we were now friends, and there were a lot of tears when it was over. It’s just been an extraordinary journey for all of us, and while it’s hard to believe that we’re approaching the end, we feel incredibly lucky to have such amazing partners.”

Though it’s technically only a spoiler if you really haven’t been paying attention, Noah Schnapp revealed to Variety in July 2022 that a significant portion of Stranger Things Season 5 will focus on Will Byers’ struggle with being gay—and yes, the character is gay, and yes, he is in love with Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard)! “It’s this multifaceted trauma that goes years back, because he was taken by the Demogorgon and then his friends, they never acknowledged him, and now he’s scared to come out and doesn’t know if they’ll accept him,” Schnapp said of his character. “And then Eleven is like his sister, but he doesn’t want to hurt her because if he says he likes Mike, that’s gonna hurt her feelings. There’s all these things running in his mind. So I kind of just have to make sure that I’m conveying the depth of all his traumas.” Netflix Next, check out 15 shows to watch while you wait for more Stranger Things!
